You're big enough to be one. [ this is a joke ] Mask doesn't help your case either.
[ but... he frowns, thoughtful - trying to decide how to answer. ]
...sort of. It's more like - there are strings. Threads. And maybe you die, get eaten by a dragon, but a real strong cleric finds you and you do a ritual and you get to come back to life. Means your string just hasn't been cut yet, and it's meant to be that way.
But when its your time to go [ (how lucky i have been, to have known all of you.) ] ...then it's your time to go. I find the people or - creatures, or whatever - who try and cheat that.
[ it's... interesting. vax never in a million years thought he'd talk to someone with a similar experience; what a chance to ask questions. ] Is it common for you?
Not precisely, no, and certainly not among my own kind. But there are other souls in the world, and there are times when they pass before they are fully prepared; they are burdened by something, and resist the pull of the stream, drifting.
[a few moments of consideration.]
And at times, such drifting souls cause unexpected troubles. I have seen one merge with an arcane creation, magic in the guise of a flaming bird; the soul's presence, burning in its breast, kept others from being able to fully destroy the creature. It would only rise once more, still anguished. Ever fleeing from its demise, and ever succeeding, but never escaping its pain.
These souls are my responsibility, as well. No other could give unto it an end.
