[Itsuki looks up, his expression a little blank until his eyes sharpen with recognition.]
...Vax-kun.
[he can't find the strength to say 'hello', but... he eyes the distance, and he thinks he could manage this. maybe. he takes the steps up, and then leans against the wall beneath. he's just silent for a long while, glancing at the area around them. he doesn't want to say anything at all, but he tries for something anyway]
Have you heard from Damien and Hot Pants yet? ...About what we found.
vax doesn't move when itsuki comes closer, for now just staying settled above him, and listening. this is a safe distance, indeed; it's why he's here, too. ]
... I haven't, no. [ he's been here! a bird. brooding. ] What'd you find?
He looks up when Vax's glances down, so that their eyes can Meet... There's something still distant in his gaze, but it softens a little at the remark.]
...Yeah. [a small pause,] That's gonna help, right? If we figure it out...
vax moves from his spot at this - he shifts, scooting forward to lean properly over the top of the building to look down at him, brows knit together, voice... gentle, actually, and after a moment, his hand comes down, dangling in itsuki's line of sight. ]
...Might not. [ after all, last week, they learned about kazuma, and that didn't make things any better. vax isn't going to sugarcoat it. even so, that gentle tone stays, and he peers down at itsuki as he speaks. ] But, I think it's better than not knowing. Especially if we figure out it was because of this place fucking with people's heads, like last time.

Itsuki takes a moment to collect the words, then]
We were at the back alley. We saw... mice. [me visibly closing my eyes] They were wearing clothes, and they ran out from the trash at us.
I don't know about Damien and me, but Hot Pants could have withstood them for sure, but we were all just thrown right out.

...Mice?
[ what the fuck
well, that is kind of distracting. ] Like - little ones? Or...?

Itsuki reaches into his pocket and holds out a piece of paper with these drawn on it for Vax to take. hilarious that it explains nothing]
Yeah, they weren't that big -- came up to our ankles.
no subject
...weird.
[ he leans down off of his roof spot to take the paper. those! sure are mice. why not? why not, honestly. ] Wonder if its like that cat.
[ and he will hand back itsuki's rat paper afterwards, then sort of glance down at him again. ]
...We'll figure it out, Itsuki. Yeah?

Right... Right. [because Vax IS right. it might not change anything, but...] If we know what happened, then something will change.
[something, anything. anything to shake him from the way he's teetering, just a little]
Maybe it can help us for next time... If it happens again.
[which it will, as he's starting to realize]
