Him and Steel. I think Bass and Riff may be closer than they are, in terms of us getting through to them.
I saw a memory of his, once. Of his home, and a place he oversaw. A vision that he had which led him to leave with others, later.
I've asked others who know him as well, and was warned against directly including his family, as he evidently feels he will find them when he is meant to; it was also mentioned that a theme in that adventure related to him was decisions, either making them or opting to wait for guidance.
That's easy. He needs to hear from the Wildmother. 's his goddess. Kiki calls her Mellora - like the Raven Queen is to me, but a little different. He's a cleric. A message from her about change, maybe. That'd be guidance. The birth heart tree might be good, too - I can show it to you in the simulation room, if you want.
[ as usual, vax is pretty hasty (heh) to get somewhere when he needs to be, so! he shows up a few minutes later, nudging the door shut with his foot and coming over to touch the panel on the sim room, giving emet a little sup nod in greeting.
... but he won't take long and gets right to business.
the world around them blooms with color - trees sprout up, up, up above their heads, leading to a grid-shaped series of walkways. distantly, emet will be able to see farmland, rich with bountiful harvests that never seem to end: golden wheat fields and bright green plant life alike bloom endlessly, despite the snowflakes falling from the air. there's a brisk breeze in vasselheim, from vax's last memory in this place, and they can see people milling about on the walkways through the forests, sometimes couples holding hands, in all manners of life from humans to elves to dragonborns to firbolgs to even a goliath. occasionally, one walks by wearing green and white robes.
there are two, much larger trees the closest to them - the birth heart. they bend together and create an archway of branches and trees that knit into each other and wrap around, and just beyond that, there's an even larger tree, with the faint glow of golden light filtering through the branches of the knotted, intertwined archway that signifies the beginning of the birth heart.
but then, that image fades a moment later, to a barren wasteland, with a similar tree. same shape, same type, but larger. ancient, older.
vax reaches out to touch it once it appears. if emet glances at him, he'll see that his wings have returned - it seems being home in exandria makes him naturally imagine himself this way. ]
...Here. [ knocking his knuckles gently against the trunk. ] The first one is the Abundant Terrace - that was her sanctuary and region in Vasselheim, the holiest city in Tal'dorei. This, though... Shale showed me this.
He said that this tree was left behind as a scar from the Calamity that hit Exandria. And I think I saw one of his memories here, too.
The Wildmother's the goddess of... nature. The harvest. She's called that because she's the mother of humanity.
I think, perhaps, I ought to avoid the second, if it might make him think he ought to stay here where things will be better. But the first-- that may be ideal.
[hmm. he's quiet, contemplating.]
The vision in his memory-- there were butterflies. Mayhap if I call upon something familiar, use them for imagery of guidance leading here...
Might be good. Maybe a path of flowers, too - life, you know?
[ that's something vax connects with, too. the image shivers, returning back to the view of the birth heart and the pulse of life through it - a few of the figures strolling the grounds become more familiar, at least to him. a beautiful woman with orange hair leads the way, holding a staff in her hands, and vax watches her long after she's walked by. ]
...If the Raven Queen called to me, I think it would be hard for me not to answer, even if I'd forgotten who I was. [ and there's a part of him that misses it, misses the comfort and familiarity of something that was once terrifying. he closes his eyes, listening to the sound of the wind rustling in the simulated trees. ] She's a part of me, now. Shale and I've got that in common. Even if he doesn't know Exandria, I think he knows her.
[ vax stays like that for a moment, just letting the memories of home take over - he clears his throat, lifting his hand and letting a few petals spill from his mouth. they're a soft, lichen green, and a cherry blossom tinged orange, and he just drops them to the ground. ] I think... if she could tell him not to be afraid of what's to come. Sort of - divine warmth, you know?
[ home to me has always been others. if they can't talk about his friends, then maybe... maybe this, something closer and more personal, something vax understands well, will do the trick.
vax huffs, a little, a smile tugging at the edge of his mouth. ] Motherly.
[he catches the color of those petals, and just. quietly files it away, taking a seat here. absorbing the imagery, the view.]
I-- cannot say I have ever known its like, but-- I shall try. Mayhap if I leave the implication and allow his subconscious to fill in what is missing, it shall have the proper effect; I doubt I could emulate her.
I think it will. I know he remembers her - I brought him here.
[ for now, he seems content just stand. this place isn't his temple, and melora isn't his god, but the vibe of it is nice. the abundant terrace is a good place to be; the wildmother really does come with the sense of home. it'll be meaningful, for shale, even more than it is for vax.
he stays standing for now, leaning against one of the boughs of the great trees, and just watches. for a moment, vax is internal, reflecting on his world, on the connection he has with a place just like this, and on the little thread that connects his life to shale's, one that neither of them was initially aware of. it's part of what makes helping him so meaningful - it feels like vax is able to return the favor.
he's quiet for a long while, just soaking in the moment, and then eventually says, quietly; ]
[both because it helps, and because... well. it's a peaceful place, he thinks. he'd like to see it in person, someday.]
I know Bass fairly well, and I have received input on Steel, but... that leaves Riff, if I wish to keep my options open. I believe you are closer than I to him, as well.
vax shifts a little, folding his arms and looking at out at the peaceful, quiet abundant grove - emet gets a half smile at the first part, but. ]
...I think... stuff about his home's not gonna help. He's in a - his situation sucks.
[ easiest just to say it bluntly. ] I think...Iunno how much you can influence it, but I think more than anything, he needs to rely on Bass. The two of them need to talk their shit out, because I think the answer he's scared of's not going to be all that scary.
[ there's a beat. he reaches up, scrubs a hand briefly over his face. ]
Bass is a good kid, and they're close. I think Riff - Rindo's just afraid of what could happen, because all the stuff he's half remembered is shit.
[ mm. it's hard. it's hard to describe in the way their little conversation with bass had gone earlier in the week - vax'ildan does know what that void of emotions feels like, that terror, that depression that drags you down by your ankles. ]
I think acceptance. Or, at least - letting him know he's not alone. Iunno how easy that would be in a dream.
[ there's a beat, and he laughs a little. ] Maybe send him a raven, too.
Maybe something with music. [ vax huffs, a little amused - there’s the distant sound of a strummed lute, and a gnome wearing purple weaves down the path, serenading to another gnome in armor, in a language that’s hard to hear. ] A little inspiration.

[a quiet sigh, a shake of his head.]
Encouragement to speak to Bass, then, which I'm sure we are already giving...
Were I to give him one of the dreams, then, what do you believe would prove encouraging in easing that fear of learning more or of leaving this place?
